Photographer’s Note
Another photo for my theme 'Houses of the World' showing typical housing in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
This photo was taken from Zaisan Tolgoi memorial which stands on top of a hill in the south of the city.
I am looking SE towards a small collection of homes and the traditional ger tent can be seen in many backyards. These collapsible tents are made of layers of felt and are covered with white cotton. Many nomadic Mongolians are moving to Ulaanbaatar along with their ger tents to look for a more regular income. In many cases they live in the regular house in the summer and the ger in the harsh winter as the ger is easier to heat. They always build a fence around the yard and many have livestock and/or a garden.
When I look at this location in the attached map I note their gers are in different positions in these backyards. I am guessing that the extended family comes and goes and that once nomadic always nomadic.

Hello Mafegan,
This is more interesting and informative than actually beautiful, but that's the fine thing with TE. Mongolia is one of those white spots of mine that I would like to fill before I get too old. It's strange to see the nomadic habits moving into the cities.
Regards,
Gert
