Photographer’s Note

This was taken during a regional exploration programme in the Western Gobi a few years ago. The helecopter would land in an area of interest and each pair would head off on a compass direction walking, mapping and sampling the area, meeting back in a few hours.

The area was extraordinarily desolate with no animals, birds, insects and usually no vegetation (although there is some in this area). Yet I found the emptyness incredibly beautiful.
