Photographer’s Note

Post #2 in the series of several photos dedicated to the Church of saint Gregory of Neocaesarea, this street and the surrounding area.

This is also a special post for Uhu who has posted so many interesting photos of Orthodox churches in Russia.

The exact date of the foundation of this church is not known, but it is not later than the XVIth century.
The present-day building was built in 1667-1669.

You can read more about this church in the Note to my previously posted photo (post #1).

About this photo:

it is a stitch of 2 photos (sorry! I am not yet very experienced in creating stitched photos, so the most experienced of you will, probably, notice it).

Now I know that I should have taken more photos to make a better stitch (with less lens distortion etc) but at that moment I really didn't think of it!

By the way, it was rather difficult to choose the right moment to take a photo to include the minimum amount of cars in front of it... I had to wait.

More than that, while I was taking photos of the surrounding area (and this church in particular), my attention was a bit distracted as an aged man came up to me: he got interested in my taking photos.
He said he lived nearby and told me loads of various stories about the local churches. He accompanied me almost all the way till I finally approached a metro station! :)

In the Workshop: 2 additional photos to complete the picture.

Update:
Here is a link to an old photo of the church (the photo was taken in 1882 almost from the same POV).
