Photographer’s Note
Continuing the series, another shot from around Vadado, but this a bit more towards centro, with older, more characteristic buildings. Cristal is the cheapest, not very good, local beer.
I know it's not much like it, but this shot reminds me a lot of the Buena Vista Social Club album cover, mainly because of the mood in the street, which is why I've added it to that theme.

Nice shot Richard,
It seems to me that Cuba is the same as 40 years ago. good composition, fantastic colours and I like the details from the old cars, very good job.

Hi Richard,
Nice to "meet" you again.
What a lovely Cuban scene. Somehow I coud guess that it is Cuba before even reading the title, probably because of the old American cars and teh blue street. Wonderful shot.

These old cars make the photograph look like it was taken many years earlier than it was, Richard, so it was good timing to wait until there were no modern vehicles in the street. Exposure is good despite the contrasty lighting conditions. Cheers . . . David

Hi Richard,
I like the position you take for this show and the strong lighting works well in showing the beautiful form of the buildings. The colours make it very lively and as for the old cars, it reminds us of the past. Great shot!! Regards.

I have never been there but this looks exactly like I would envision Cuba, Richard. Time seems to have stood still at this corner of the street, a great view with the colorful houses and the classic cars. I also like how you included the sign at the top left in the frame.

Nice shot Richard, I love Havana too! a photographers dream.
You have managed to capture both the faded glory of the buildings and the beautiful old (smokey), cars.
Oh, and you are right, I do take long breaks.
Thanks for sharing.
Michael.

I had read some time ago that because cars were so hard to come by after the Communists took over that the locals just made do with what they had. Seeing them in use in your photo makes it appear as if we're peering through a window in time. The diagonal perspective really makes these old cars stand out.

Hello Richard,
Here is a picture which says everything about what Havana looks like. The old buildings, the colors, the vintage american cars: An you took it exactly inthe same way I would have taken it, with a diagonal.
I like it very much - Izzet

I guess it’s impossible to miss the cars in Cuba. Personally I think it would be a great idea to keep them in the future as part of Havana’s monuments as they became more know than the old buildings themselves. Just like the taxis and two-deck buses in London or the trams in Lisbon. Who knows with new and more ecological engines but keeping the shapes and colors.
Nice street life image with very interesting details.

Hi Richard, I think you've captured a quintessential Cuban scene here. Great old crumbling, characterful buildings and cars.I also like the soft (evening?) light in this one, and the shades of blue and other pastels... Great photo!

Ryno
