Photographer’s Note
Camaguey is one of Cuba’s most fantastic cities. Few tourists visit this gem on their way to or from the orient. UNESCO awarded Camaguey the title city of the year 2008.
I arrived by bus from Santiago very late in the evening at 23:00, took a taxi into the city centre. I could hardly believe my eyes; the old well maintained buildings were glowing in the light from the streetlamps. It was like travelling back to Dickens time in good old London! I hadn't seen anything like this before so I told the Casa Particular owner I will be out photographing for at least an hour! The owner said, now in the middle of the night?
If you would like to see a city with fantastic building, few tourists and a meet the unknown Cuba i.e. Cubans not so used to meet tourists let it be Camaguey!

Hi Jan Olof,
looking at your pic I´m sorry not to have visited this city...I even had a invitation from a cuban lady sitting next to me in the airplane !
These cities are jewels and in your photo Camaguey is glowing like a jewel..

Hej Jan-Olof,
This is a beautiful night shot with a lot of nostalgic feel to it. Warm night light outlining the beautiful structural details. Nice you captured also the distant couple and bike.
cheers,
Cristian
