‘Náfplio (Ναύπλιο) - evening in Náfplio’

Náfplio, a very beautiful town in the Peloponnese, was the first capital of modern Greece (only 5 years from 1829 to 1834).

On the picture you see the central square Platia Syndágmatos with the Palamidi castle on the background.

On the top of a 215-metre high rock the Venetians build this fortress after they retook the city in 1685 from the Ottomans.
This fortress was the last major construction of the Venetian empire overseas.

After having climbed 857 steps (to the top of the fortress there are more than 1.000 !) you can enjoy an impressive view over the old town of Nafplion and the Argolic Gulf.
Lots of pictures with this view have already been posted on TE (by other members).

I have been considering to post a photo here of this nightview on the square on which I have cropped the lamps at the left side. I didn’t because I felt the composition wasn’t right anymore.
