it is an ancient prehistoric river balcony, it was a habitat umbro and then Roman colony. To the beginning of the You century, to the time of Teodorico, a hermitage was formed: a monastic and agricultural cell, around an oratory: St. Felice. It was curtis longobarda, inclusive in the Castaldato of Ponte. In the century XII the agricultural colony was picked up on the high ground, forming Castel San Felice, feud of the duke Corrado of Urslingen; in 1198, footstep to Spoleto. In 1194 it was erect the church of St. Felice.
According to the tradition here Mauro came, his/her child Felice and his nurse, to the time of Teodorico. It was one of the three hundred siriacis immigrated in Italy. S.Mauro and S.Felice, people of prayer and penitence, withdrew him in a cave along the Black one. Known by the people for their holiness, they did present to Mauro the presence of a pestifero dragon, that it led slaughter of men. Mauro and Felice begged the Lord and the dragon she was killed by an enormous fallen rock on her head.
Felice lived in purity and talked to the Angels. It also operated miracles among which the resurrezione of an unique child of mother widow. Premorì to their father together with the nurse the 16.06.535, after having been warned by the angels. Mauro, stayed only, it deposed their bodies in an oratory that then it became church devoted to St. Felice. Also the country (that it makes him go up again to the 530), taken his/her name. Mauro founded a Benedictine monastery, it was abbot of it, saint it died in 555 and it was buried in the same oratory. Naturally the dragon and solo a symbol. It deals with the liberation from the paganism and from the sin, but also from the swamps and from the ignorance. The oratorical primitive, with the three graves, it is the crypt of the church now. Around this monastic cell the monastery rose, dependent from Farfa and then from St. Pietro in Valley, of which the rough cloister stays. In the century XII was dependent priorate from Sassovivo. It stays, instead, superb monument, the church.

All'inizio del VI secolo, al tempo di Teodorico, si formò un eremo: una cella monastica e agricola, attorno ad un oratorio: San Felice. Fu curtis longobarda, compresa nel Castaldato di Ponte. Nel secolo XII la colonia agricola si raccolse sull'altura, formando Castel San Felice, feudo del duca Corrado d'Urslingen; nel 1198, passo a Spoleto. Nel 1194 fu eretta la chiesa di San Felice.
Secondo la tradizione qui giunse Mauro, suo figlio Felice e la sua nutrice, al tempo di Teodorico. Era uno dei trecento siriaci immigrati in Italia. S.Mauro e S.Felice, gente di preghiera e di penitenza, si ritirarono in una grotta lungo il Nera. Conosciuti dalla gente per la loro santità, fecero presente a Mauro la presenza di un pestifero dragone, che menava strage di uomini. Mauro e Felice pregarono il Signore e il drago fu ucciso da un enorme masso caduto sulla sua testa.

Anche il paese (che si fa risalire al 530), prese il suo nome. Mauro fondò un monastero benedettino, ne fu abate, morì santo nel 555 e fu sepolto nello stesso oratorio. Naturalmente il drago e solo un simbolo. Si tratta della liberazione dal paganesimo e dal peccato, ma anche dalle paludi e dall'ignoranza. Il primitivo oratorio, con le tombe dei tre, è ora la cripta della chiesa. Attorno a questa cella monastica sorse il monastero, dipendente da Farfa e poi da San Pietro in Valle, del quale resta il rude chiostro. Nel secolo XII era priorato dipendente da Sassovivo. Resta, invece, superbo monumento, la chiesa.
