Photographer’s Note

A second shot of the famous canals at night. This picture was taken in the northern part of the city not far from the Grand Doges Hotel where we were staying. I found these quiet backwaters to be far more appealing than the crowded touristy central part of the city.

Hi Jonathan, A very nice photo, well composed & a great POV, I like the way the canal side houseing sweeps from left to right, the lighting is excellent & that blue sky is beautiful, sharp & I would love to sail down this canal it looks superb, kind regards Wilson.

Nicely managed light for this night shot, with a lot of interesting detail captured. I quite agree about that part of the town.

Hi Jonathan
Good to see you back on TE and this is a very pleasing blue hour scene. The lighting from the restaurant gives a cosy feel and contrasts well against the cool blue of the sky and surroundings. Nice perspective along the canal and a lovely traquil atmosphere.

Very attractive picture like an impressionistic painting. The play of light is double fascinating with the reflection into the canal.
I wonder were you put all the tourist before you took this deserted scene.

This is a good night shot with excellent lighting and color. Your composition is good showing the buildings and canal on an angle allowing us to see a wider view.

Venice is a place I have yet to visit, maybe because I'm afraid of all the tourists. It's good to see that there are nice out of the way places where you can avoid the tourists but still see the characteristic canals and buildings of Venice. Thanks for sharing.

one of the world's photogenic cities. I agree with you about the backstreets. You just have to keep looking around and keep you eye open for some amazing small detail shots. The beauty is that as a city it is compact with everywhere accessable by walking.
