L'Ou com balla, literally "The egg that dances", is one of the most unique traditions of Barcelona from 1637 that has distinguished the Day of Corpus Christi. It is one of the most popular and participates in the festival that continuosly has been celebrated in the cloister of the Cathedral and in the courtyard of the Casa de l'Ardiaca.
The custom, that consists in making dance an egg in a jet of water, has spread to many other sources of public buildings, religious and private.
This game of water, originally discussed, has several interpretations: either it can be considered as a representation of the exaltation of the Eucharist (eggs) above the calyx (the basket that includes and surrounds the water jet, richly decorated with flowers and cherries) as people wanted to see in the representation of the fullness of spring, the outbreak of fertility, reborn of life.
All in all a beautiful tradition.

L'ou com balla es una de las tradiciones más singulares de Barcelona que desde 1637 ha distinguido la diada del Corpus. Es uno de los aspectos más populares y participaticos de la festividad que, ininterrupidamente se ha venido celebrando en el claustro de la Catedral y en el patio de la Casa de l'Ardiaca.
La costumbre que consiste en hacer bailar un huevo en un surtidor de agua, se ha extendido a muchas otras fuentes de edificios públicos, religiosos y privados.
Este juego de agua, de origen discutido, tiene varias interpretaciones: tanto se le ha atribuido la representación de la exaltación de la Eucaristía (el huevo) por encima del cáliz (la cesta que lo recoge y que envuelve el chorro de agua, ricamente decorada con flores y cerezas) como se ha querido ver en él la representación de la plenitud de la primavera, el estallido de la fecundidad, la vida que renace.
Una bonita tradición donde las haya.
