Photographer’s Note

... at least these feelings (mentioned in the title) I read in their faces :) Maybe you can see something different?..

H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf and H.M. Queen Silvia on their way to Skansen on the Swedish national day, June 6.

This is a scanned photo from my "family album" and was not meant to be posted for reasons of poor quality (the camera which I used was not good - a Samsung one which I had borrowed from a friend), but I could not find any more approproate photo for posting on the Swedish national day.

So, I should say, this shot is more for information rather than for any assessment by fair critics :)

A really decisive moment, because I consider myself lucky to be there at that moment.

Much earlier I have already posted a photo (taken with a different, better, camera), so you can have a look at it, too.

Unfortunately, in both photos H.M. Queen Silvia's face is not seen: she turned away to greet the people standing at the road...

In the Workshop you can also see the royal children: Prince Carl Philip and Crown Princess Victoria, and also another shot of the procession.

The story of the shot:

I was just returning from Djurgården, and when I was near Djurgårdsbron I saw people standing along both sides of the road and on the bridge, and also there were several policemen.

I asked a policeman what's going on here, and he proudly said that the King and Queen of Sweden and their children would be coming here very soon, heading to Skansen.

I stayed there as I was very curious to see the procession. Finally I saw some guards riding on horses and then the carriages appeared.

They moved neither quickly, nor slowly, so those "spectators" who wanted to take photos could do it easily :) So did I. I managed to take a few photos. The Royal couple was as close to me as maybe 2-3 meters (as I was standing very close to the edge of the road).

PP work: minor noise reduction; levels adjustment; sharpening; cropping the right side (part of the horse).

Info:
June 6 became the Swedish national day in 1983 and was previously known as Swedish flag day.

It marks the coronation of Gustav Vasa in 1523 and the adoption of a new constitution in 1809.

But the Swedish Riksdag (parliament) only designated June 6 a public holiday in 2005 to encourage people to celebrate being Swedish.
