I can't find how to translate the key word of my note : the word use to name this kind of gable (wall), typical of Flanders. I found "saw-tooth" but I'm not sure it's correct !!!
I found various explanations for this architecture, some saying that flemish owners were taxed on the width of their houses, so perhaps the height of the house compensated for narrowness ? I also sorted out that it could be a transfer of traditionnal farm architecture to the cities. In the farms, this kind of gable was used to prevent thatch to fall down and from the rain and wind in order to not have it rotten quickly (the gables were higher than the roof and exposed on the west, facing the bad weather).
I hope it's understandable !!! |

Salut Marion
Quel cadrage impeccable encore !

Amicalement,
Olivier
