Photographer’s Note
This is the walkway underpass from Trafalgar Street to Palace Street, Petersham (inner western suburb of Sydney). On top of the underpass is the main western rail line from Sydney Central Station. As you can see every square inch of this underpass contains graffitti.
While I was grabbing some shots of the underpass (learning Manaul mode) this gentleman came down (the stairs) from Trafalgar Street heading north to the Palace Street exit. All the way along the underpass he had his head down (dreaming or pondering - one or the other) by the time he got to me he appeared a bit shocked to see me with camera on tripod :/
My research of the www. thingy found the original grand railway station commenced being built in 1857 and designed by John Whitton. The subway (walkway underpass) was built at the western end of the station.
WS has original colour shot.

Hello Graham.
Image that tells the loneliness and urban decay. The tunnel is the symbol of a life that goes into anonymity.
Best regards.
Bobo.
P.S. : I thank you a lot for you having included me among your favorites, I'll do everything possible to deserve this recognition. :-)

Hi Graham,
Looks good, lovely atmosphere you've captured. It has all the attributes of the modern city wilderness.
B/W works well, good idea to do the conversion.
I like the way you've captured him in mid stride and picked up the grey beard this blokes got.
Yeah, this works for me.
Regards
Peter

Hello Graham, BW suits some images really well, this is one of them, it adds to the atmosphere you have capture, one of urban wilderness, isolation & complimented by the graffiti. The man walking, head down, half stride is a good addition. Nice one

Hello Graham,
It looks like a scene from 1970's NYC. :-) I really like the capture of this man, with his foot up as he strides along, unaware of your camera. The B/W does add to the feeling of desolation, but I do wonder what the color version looks like. Usually the graffitti is artwork in its own right. Although I suppose a color version would have worked better with a more lively subject. You made the right choice for B/W in this case. :-)

Very nice capture. I like the contrast between the smooth ground and ceiling and the all too cluttered walls. The man really makes the picture - how lucky he came by. Nice post.
Sincerely,
Kate

I your photo but honestly think I would prefer to see this one with the colorful grafitti. You've picked up some noise shooting at 1600 iso. I think your camera has a high ISO noise reduction setting. Try it if you haven't already. Thanks for sharing.
