Molti lo chiamano il trenino più bello del mondo. Questo forse anche per il fatto che i binari di questo favoloso trenino rosso portano il turista a toccare quasi il cielo. Salire sul trenino del Bernina equivale ad entrare in un teatro ed il paesaggio che ci scorre davanti è il palcoscenico che offre uno spettacolo che muta con ritmo pigro. Non è solo la natura a farsi ammirare ma è anche la ferrovia stessa a dare spettacolo: locomotive e vagoni giocattolo, stazioncine che sembrano fatte a traforo, curve strettissime vi faranno allungare le mani per afferrare la coda del treno, viadotti e gallerie elicoidali con pendenze a tratti impressionanti. Indubbiamente anche il percorso contribuisce al fascino di questa linea: si leva dal fondovalle valtellinese ai boschi della Val Poschiavo, sino a salire tra i ghiacciai e le vette del Bernina per poi scendere nella sempre incantevole Engadina, sino a Pontresina e Saint Moritz.
Il trenino rosso scala un paesaggio da fiaba nel cuore delle Alpi ammantate di neve ed il vento che soffia e le montagne ghiacciate e abbaglianti fanno vivere un viaggio indimenticabile.

The Bernina Express is an express train which connects Chur (or Davos) to Poschiavo and Tirano crossing the Swiss Alps from north to south, using the Albula / Bernina Line.

The train is operated by the Rhaetian Railway, it is not an "express" in the sense of being a high-speed train but rather in the sense that it provides a one-seat ride for a long duration travel. The Bernina Express itself is a train composed of panoramic coaches with a piped multi-lingual commentary, and a small supplement and seat reservation is needed in order to travel on this train. The Bernina Express is popular with tourists, and connects in Tirano with the Post Bus service to Lugano.

The trip on the Bernina Express is a 4 hour railway journey across 196 bridges, through 55 tunnels and across the Bernina Pass on the highest point at 2,253 metres in altitude. The entire line is metre gauge

The Bernina Railway built the line from 1908-1910 and operated independently until the 1940s. The Bernina Express uses gradients of 7% to achieve a difference in height of about 1800 meters from the summit at Ospizio Bernina to Tirano.

The Albula line and Bernina line on the Bernina Express route were declared a World Heritage Site in 2008.
