Photographer’s Note
It was rainning a lot on this day. The previous day was sunny and the next day was also sunny. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to visit this famous place on a friday, 13th...
This is the view to the south side of the glaciar Perito Moreno. You can see the rain falling on top of the massive ice walls that are about 60m high. There's a boat in the distance on the left that can give some scale. It was a dark day, but all that ice was stil reflecting a lot of light and beautiful blue hues.
WS1 - detail of a wall at right of this image.
WS2 - classic perspective of the north face.
----------------------------
The 250 km2 (97 sq mi) ice formation, and 30 km (19 mi) in length, is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system shared with Chile. This icefield is the world's third largest reserve of fresh water.
-------------------
info from Rough Guide:
GLACIAR PERITO MORENO it's not the longest of Argentina's glaciers – nearby Glaciar Upsala is twice as long (60km) – and though the ice cliffs at its snout tower 50m to 60m high, the face of Glaciar Spegazzini can reach heights double that. However, such comparisons prove irrelevant when you stand on the boardwalks that face this monster. Perito Moreno has a star quality that none of the others rivals.
One will witness the thuds, cracks, creaks and grinding crunches that the glacier habitually makes, as well as the wonderful variety of colours of the ice: marbled in places with streaks of muddy grey and copper-sulphate blue, whilst at the bottom the pressurized, de-oxygenated ice has a deep blue, waxy sheen. The glacier tends to be more active in sunny weather and in the afternoon, but early morning can also be beautiful, as the sun strikes the ice cliffs.
------------
info from Wikipedia:
The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that are not retreating. The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 kilometres (3 mi) wide, with an average height of 60 m (200 ft) above the surface of the water, with a total ice depth of 170 metres (558 ft). It advances at a speed of up to 2 metres (6.6 ft) per day (around 700 metres (2,300 ft) per year), although it loses mass at approximately the same rate, meaning that aside from small variations, its terminus has not advanced or receded in the past 90 years. At its deepest part, the glacier has a depth of approximately 700 metres (2,300 ft).

Finalmente o glaciar!

I impatiently awaited it this series of photographs on this famous glacier !!! It was not the ideal weather but that gives really interesting contrasts with the whiteness of the ice. Here the boat offers an impressive scale on the height of the cold wall !!! The traditional sight is, I find, the best point of view than one can have on this giant… Well seen Ricardo and thank you for the note.
With all my friendships and very good Sunday,
Jean-Charles

lindo trabalho

Bonjour, mon ami Ricardo,

Hello Ricardo
An amazing image, capturing the atmosphere of this remote place so well!
This must be the end of the world if any, and this hostile environment has a strange attraction just because of that...
The light is well used to convey the message!

Friday 13th is not so bad to get a stunning and unusual picture, even if you have preferred to see that landscape under a bright sunshine.
Even in bad weather, we can take pictures.
I like the contrast big/small and white/black

Ola Ricardo,
I see that you've been travelling again... :o)
Despite the bad weather and the poor light, you've managed an impressive photo of the glacier with stunning colors on the ice. Good thing you included the boat on the left because without it I think I would have gotten a wrong idea of the scale.
Cheers.

But GRANDE (big)Ricardo! I like SO much the dark sky, so dramatic. And the whitness of the Glacier is a strong, wonderful contrast. Is it not an iceberg? This is strange for me. But I am used to Greenland!

Hi Ricardo, For you rather bad luck to have a weather like this. But the photo is very interesting, falling rain looks drammatic, the boat so small comparing to the glaciar wall. Have you walked on the glaciar? It is a fantastic experience.

Perhaps a dark day, but what an ambiance. It changes from the classical view of this famous place. The white-blue of the ice is well put in evidence in this way.

Hi Ricardo, you are dissappeared in the southernmost parts of Patagonia ! It should be a different experience to be very close to Antarctica. Thanks to the "terrible" weather, the glacier looks like a cheesecake on the ocean. And the presence of the boat at the distance helps us to have an idea about the dimensions of the glacier.
Best regards... Tolga

Splendid! Wow.
This is a dream image for me. Glacier!
That must be a joy of life to see this kind of scenery. Very good color tone of the walls, as if it is drawn by paint. I think the dark sky is very good contrast for this shot. Superb sharpness as a result of f/18 choice in your setting.
I like both WS versions. Such an envy to see such kind of views, wish I were there!
Excellent work.

Ricardo,
The boat give great sence of scale and perspective. the scenery is spectacular as expected, the weather condition is not and light is so poor, you manage well to get a good shot, the noise level is high but not bad. I hope it's not too cold when I get there.

Ola Ricardo,
Don't let the weather fool you, i have made some stunning shots in the pouring rain, although i have to admit i like dry and beautiful more than walking through the pouring rain. But here that so called bad weather works very good and brings out great contrast and detail in front.
The Glacier is huge and in contrast with that tiny boat very impressive to see. The blue toning from it looks absolute great....seems you made a great trip.
Have you also been to the other side in Chile...in Torres Del Paine?
Take care,

Buen trabajo, amigo.
