Photographer’s Note

A pwe in old Bagan town, dedicated to carny lovers (still on trekearth, Pup and Lee?).

Pwe is everything about enjoying yourselves in rural Burma, from traditional dances to more modern attractions for the little ones such as merry-go-rounds, the important thing is that it lasts through the night and till the morning.

This is a small and human motioned merry go round : embark into the jeep, or ride on the horse, the attendant will push you around till it gets a bit of motion. "We still do it the old way", says the attendant. Look out : the night is still young and there will then be plenty of energy spent pushing the carts.

hi Luko. Simon already said it, the green hue and the night time atmosphere is really good. I find the noise to ve too much, though. Otherwise a good composition and the motion is very good.

sort of a change from your subtle monks to this bombastic scene. Fantastic green hue and beautiful motion blurs. You built this photo around the man, right? The whole scene seems to be in motion around him.

I like it! Slightly noisy but the general 'feeling' of the photo more than makes up for it. Lovely colours and composition. Well captured.

Hello Luko,

I like the motion in this picture, the light is lovely here, the greenish tone throughout the picture. The Noise is Ok with me as I believe the light was not too good there.

Tiens, toi aussi tu passes à la photo de nuit !
J’aime bien cette scène.
A première vue, ça pourrait se passer n’importe ou.
Une scène très ordinaire, mais ce qui rajoute un plus ici, c’est incontestablement le rendu des tubes lumineux !
Ca donne une impression de froid morbide, une mélange étonnant compte tenu de la chaleur des nuits birmanes.

Superbe ambiance nocturne; tu as drolement bien reussi a f4.0 dans cette penmbre! J'aime comme le gars, le "carnie" se tient comme ca, comme Spartacus au milieu de son manege...

great night time atmosphere, the bright neon colour against the dark sky and the tent is great.

i like the blur of the ride while the guy is pin sharp.

once again amazing metering (and i guess pp) from you, nothing overburnt nor too dark. hats off! beautiful graininess (a major problem for me in colour) and i also like the green ambiance here (the "little green man" is sooo cool). the hue on the attendat's hair bothers me though.

Salut Luko.
Pas tout à fait dans le style de tes posts habituels....ca change et c'est du bon.
J'aime cette ambiance à double tranchant....un côté dynamique et vivant, avec ces enfants en plein tour de manège....et puis ce côté plus sombre avec cette lumière verdatre, ce fond noir, ce mec un peu intriguant dans le focus qui te regarde du coin de l'oeil...bref deux atmoshpères totalement différentes qui rentrent dans cette compo.

Yes, I am here, but just barely. I have very little time these days and I have decided that the critiques that I tend to write when I don't have enough time are too banal and unhelpful. I am waiting until I have some time and some photos.

I am interested in your only still subject, the carny. I would love to see a closer portrait of him. He seems to conform to the carny archetype in some ways -- are those tattoos? And not in other ways -- plaid pants. But it's his face and attitude that draw me...

Nice tilt, nice motion. ALmost film noirish.

l'ambiance verte est superbement étrange en photo
ici, çà fonctionne hyper bien
déjà vu des photos de "manège" de Birmanie mais plutôt en n&b...
pas comme celle-ci ...
