Hello Luko,
i'm the first one who have a pleasure to write this critique, somehow i reckon than if i'll write only prise, it will be unnoticed, am i right?
so... not the brilliant photo, just nice captured moment, framing rather good, but i can't see women's face expression. i would say 'correct' photo, needless to say anything else, because i know there will be pile of critiques under mine, unnoticed of course ;).
by the way... i've got suggestion that you are maybe better critique writer than a photographer, without offense of course. your critiques are brilliant, photos are 'correct'. sometimes when i want to find interesting photos uploaded on te recently, i just look through your critiques, you've got gift of digging out good photos...

Hello Luko

This is really a beautiful everyday scene, something that really shows what some people have to do to make a living.
Personally I work in an engine workshop and I'm used to go to the store, but this photo really shows what we in Norway call "The backside of the medal"
The photo has an overall very quiet setting to it, soft light and a nice quiet DOV that gives just the right impressions.

Excellent contact between them is creating a splendid scene. You caught perfect moment while adding other nice objects with your wide view. It’s more meaningful with lines of Hold Tight - Andrews’s sisters. Congratulations.

Gorgeous shot, extremely dynamic with that man reaching to the woman on the boat for the seafood. The doubling of the hills and the masts of the boats as well as the boats are wonderfully MUSICAL in fact, full of rhythmic variations that are set against the contrapunto of the diagonal action. The colours are breathtaking--how did you achieve this depth? Beautiful shot. A little gem, again, Luko.

Delighted to see you unload these colored gems on us, Luko. I mean I KNEW they were there obviously, and perhaps it is a testament to your steely discipline that you hung on to them so long...
Whatever the case, this one, which one could almost call "A lull in the rain",is wonderful. Fascinated by your decision (twice now) to go all the way to the 17mm end of the L lens on full frame, perhaps a bit like what you are familiar with the 21mm on the M. I don't get a sense of distortion here but rather of great intimacy, a certain tension and great, nreathtaking depth. The colors POP as only colors can on these broody, cloud-laden days.
I am 100% with you on Halong - good seafood, the rest is vastly overrated, Catherine Deneuve include...;o)
To conclude i like the compassion for working folks that I sense here once again in your image, and the sense of GRIT.

Ill jump in with some praise too, its a really beautiful photo and like Francis I like the look of the 17mm. Damn, I love the wide angle but the 17mm on my 20D is not so wide and looking at photos like this, I really want to get that 5D ASAP. The colors are really good, seems like you got the perfect light that allowed you to get this richly coloed shot. The moment though is ofcourse whats great, those reaching hands that meet at the bucket.

Nice dynamic capture. i'm really pulled into the moment by the long reach emphasized by the 17mm focal length, and the colors, while intense, are also dark and moody. The background is well composed, also, with the distant mountains/islands placed to have harmony with the foreground subject matter.

une superbe diagonale entre ces trois personnes Luko..C'est bien étudié comme d'hab, rien à dire sur le souci du détail que tu maîtrises bien..
La lumière est vraiment belle..

Well composed and well executed photo, show everyday life in one small spot of this ball called Earth.
Like the way you accentuated perspective to show surroundings and a piece of space where those people lives and i think that very small range of colours nicely enhance hardness of their everydays life.

Well from one boat photo to the next, the gloomy look reminds me of the photo I just commented on from Francis. Some gorgeous saturated colour here and a great local lifestyle photo.

Thanks Luko! This one is way more simpler to comment ;) But I did linger on it as usual... That 17-40 keeps me impressing at each day that passes (not only in my hands but above all in others). The impressive detail it achieves at "large" apertures is amazing. And its rendition of color is truly beautiful. Love your compo here. Very clever to present the scene from the receiver's point of view. You take us right into the action and I like that. And then you present us this gorgeous landscape. Clever! You probably wouldn't post this same image without the two actors - even if it was a great one - but the truth is that one of the elements I like more here is the interplay between the two green huts of the boat and the two hills on the back. It's a very dynamic shot with great light (see the reflection on the water surface) and deep colors (probably achieved by the the overcast weather conditions). Thanks

I pass on the blablabla well taken, great technique and so on...
I notice that your two last posts from Vietnam are quite different to those posted before. I think that the new ones look more like a report, truely daily life with maybe less emotional content than your previous ones (I think in particular about "The Woman Takes It All", "The Escapist", "Legendary Icons" etc...). A photo like "Otherness" haunted me for a few days, the eyes of this girl in the foreground was flashing in my brain every so often.
Here you come with an other approach, but still manage to keep your own style. I'll quote a friend of mine:

"Un bon technicien te rend jaloux.
Un artiste te rend ému.
Quelque chose comme ça."

"A good technician makes you jealous.
An artist makes you disturbed/touched.
Something like this"

It describes well what I see here. Obviously, this is purely subjective.

In colour, reminds me of your laundry photo from ages ago - those vivid colours in a drab grey-brown setting: it's a good combination. The wide perspective I like too.

very nice one, even if 'blues' look a bit saturated, colours and compo. are top-notch imo. i am not sure of the 17mm. here though, the type of distortion of this zoom lens at the wide-end (on 5D) gives me heebie-jeebies! :) cheers.

Bien, cette série, même très bien.
Encore une fois, ton point de vue et ton cadrage rendent la prise de vue extrêmement dynamique, et ce, indépendamment de l’action.
Très flashy ce rose au milieu, ca rajoute encore une fois du pepps….

j'ai tjs bcp de mal avec ces couleurs limites saturées dans un environment grisâtre, j'aime bien la construction de cette photo avec le dos de jeune homme qui nous sert de tremplin pour glisser sur le 2ème plan ave ces 2 mains tenuds et "rebondir" vers le 3ème plan ... vers les îles du fond qui du coup ferment aussi l'image pour renvoyer vers la scène principale. Encore une composition fine et dynamique ...

Mmmhh, ça me rappelle le 10-22 que je n'ai plus et, bien que tout ceci semble évident, la difficulté qui existe, en vérité, à faire des compositions qui tiennent la route avec un angle aussi graaaannnnd. D'un autre côté tu n'as pas beaucoup de mérite car tout le monde sait maintenant que tu t'es entraîné pendant des années au 21mm Voigtlander. Bref, comme je suis d'humeur à fantasmer, je vois ici un corps de femme allongé sur le dos (probablement Mme B. Halong...) avec deux seins verts qui se dressent en arrière plan. Serait-ce l'effet des chocolats hallucinogènes Suisses?

j'aime bien le Luko version coloré.
Tu n'as pas aimé l'endroit mais tes photos ne font pas penser à un endroit hyper touristique.
Un cadrage bien dynamique et équilibré... j'aime bien les ronds dans l'eau.

Hi Luko. Great use of wide angle/perspective distortion. Even though the girl is still very close, she is dwarfed by the squatting man. That is the best part of this shot for me. Nice colors here; I don't think they are totally accurate, but they are pleasing. They kinda remind me of Fuji Superia200 film, which I always liked. Fairly interesting PP I think and it works well, other than perhaps where the sky meets the limestone karschs(sp?), which just seems a tiny bit off to me. Anyways, good shot.

Salut Luko, j'aime beaucoup ce genre de compos, pris en pleine prise en main avec plein de details dans le fond, j'aime beaucoup le genre, la compo est au poil, la PDC me plait bien, on distingue bien tout ce qu'il faut...

En observant ta galerie, je me suis trouvé avec cette prise. Une photo dans lequel l'angle de tir utilisé, a été très juste, pour recueillir de beaux détails dans une grande profondeur.
Les tâches de pêche, presqu'angoissantes, la sérénité de l'eau avec une couleur spéciale, et les formations rocheuses, recréent une grande composition. Félicitations.
