QM 2 in Rotterdam Photo

Photographer’s Note

I’m interruptng my Greece series now for some shots of the visit of the Queen Mary 2, world’s largest passenger/cruise ship of Cunard, to Rotterdam. It docked today on 05:30 and we couldn’t resist being there. We saw the 380 m long behemoth very slowly backing up to the quay of the cruise terminal – the first 15 minutes only visible as a giant array of light and later showing it’s impressive contours in the soft morning light. This pic was shot at 06.00 hours.

Pic stats: Focal length 120 mm, F 3.2, shutter 1/450, 100 ASA.
PS-E2 tech: skewed, cropped, levels & contrast adjusted, saturation (master, yellows, reds) boosted, USM-ed, frame added and saved for the web.

Ik dacht het wel Bert,
I had zo mijn vermoedens. Maar eigenlijk had ik een shot van je verwacht van het Manhatten aan de Maas, met de Q 2 binnen varend. Maakt niet uit ik vind deze technische ook mooi.

I didn't see you there, Bert!! You have some color in the sky, it's a bit still dark, I have a whitewashed sky. Besides my LCD screen stopped working and had to look through the viewfinder.
Marvellous ship, very good crop, glad you being up so early ;-)

Mooi beeld van deze prachtige boot Bert, de verlichting op de boot geeft iets speciaals aan de foto, goe tezien hoe klein een mens is ten opzichte van dergelijk groot schip. Zeer mooi in beeld gebracht!

I like this view and angle you chose, the light is incredible, good sharpness, I've been on a cruise once, this boat are just georgous, very nice composition.

Beautiful composition. The lines of the ship really are elegant here and remind me of the advertisements of the ocean liners of the golden era. The sky is perfect for this shot and the lines and details of the ship are nice and crisp and the lighting beautifully handled. It's a very elegant shot of this Queen. Excellent, Bert.

Was jy en Rinie saam daar? Dis 'n ongelooflike groot skip!!! Mooi komposisie met die naam in die raam aar jy hom geplaas het! Die swart basis, wit middel en stukkie rooi in die blou lug rond dit mooi af!.

Mooie compositie, de manier waarop je de foto genomen hebt legt de nadruk op de grootte van het ship,de kleuren komen zeer goed tot hun recht en ook de scherpte is prima,de lichten die je ziet voegen een meerwaarde toe aan de foto..

This fabulous boat is so well cought here Bert! Fine composition and perfect crop IMO. It stands with much majesty, light is very well managed and sharpness is excellent. I really like that angle, all lines come out very well and the name in the bottom right corner is fine. Excellent catch Bert!

yes, you´re right: it could have been taken anywhere in the world, but the image is wonderful nonetheless, Bert!
my eyes wonder around it, and i am amazed with the size of the people in the superior deck. what an emotion to see this ship!
congratulations for a sharp and fantastically well composed image.
